## Key points

- Reddit will test account-only access in selected markets outside the US.
- The company says search traffic has fallen significantly.
- The change could support ad targeting and protect Reddit’s data.

## Summary

Reddit plans to test a logged-in-only experience in selected markets outside the US, meaning people without accounts may no longer be able to view its content. CEO Steve Huffman says the shift is intended to help the platform retain new audiences as search traffic declines, while also responding to AI scraping and changes in internet search.

Huffman described the move as a major but necessary change. He said logged-in users give Reddit more signals for ad targeting and tend to engage more, while account restrictions could help protect the company’s data and adapt to regulations. The change may frustrate some users, particularly amid existing concerns about other platform changes such as restrictions on Old Reddit.
