Reddit chief executive Steve Huffman has criticised Google’s AI Overviews, saying users want to visit Reddit itself rather than read summaries of its content. His comments matter because Reddit says search traffic has declined, adding to wider publisher concerns that AI-generated answers reduce clicks to original sources.

Huffman said traditional search results had created significant value, whereas AI Overviews had not delivered a comparable benefit for Reddit or the broader online ecosystem. Reddit is reconsidering its relationship with Google, including the possibility of changing or ending its reported $60 million licensing agreement, while also exploring product changes such as better recommendations, video features and audio versions of Reddit posts.
