Directed by John Sayles, the video casts Springsteen as a mechanic whose colleagues imply a mutual attraction with a female customer. He returns her car to her estate, considers approaching her home, then leaves the keys in the letterbox and walks away; the restrained plot mirrors the song’s theme of desire versus judgement. “I’m On Fire” was the album’s fourth single and, like its predecessors, reached the US Top 10.
