A repeat offender has been arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, after video circulated online showing him screaming at and punching a woman in the street, in the same city where Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was fatally stabbed last year. Police named the suspect as Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, who has been arrested nine times in the past three years, and said he fled after the assault before officers detained him. The case has reignited debate over repeat offenders being repeatedly released into the community, echoing concerns raised after Zarutska's killing.

Footage posted by a local reporter showed Hunt yelling at the woman before knocking her to the ground and slapping her; she was hospitalised with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His record includes charges of assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon, and a 2020 conviction for shooting into an occupied building, and police are investigating him over several similar recorded attacks on women. Once released from medical treatment, he faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, while a police spokesperson said questions about his repeated release fell outside their jurisdiction.
