Her comment came shortly after Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega vowed that his government would never again allow elections that could return power to opposition parties he associates with the United States, escalating tensions between Washington and Managua.

Salazar made the remark in a social media post on Monday, directly linking it to ongoing efforts targeting Cuba's government. Ortega had stated on Sunday, as reported by Reuters, that "there won't be any more elections here for them to try to seize the government and seize power," and dismissed the prospect of US-backed parties or so-called "Somocistas" ever regaining control.
