## Key points

- Eight people were killed in the Krakow attack.
- A police officer stopped the gunman and was critically wounded.
- The suspect was reportedly a military school cadet, not a serving soldier.

## Summary

A 25-year-old man suspected of killing eight people, including his parents and sister, before opening fire in a Krakow market square is being treated in hospital. The attack killed six others, including a British man, and injured 15; a police officer who confronted the gunman was critically wounded.

The suspect, identified locally as Michal O, was reportedly a cadet at a military school about 80 miles from Krakow, though the military said he was not a serving soldier. Police say he used an AR-15-style rifle and had several other weapons in his car; the military-style clothing and body armour were self-assembled. Officials described him as having radical far-right views, while neighbours said his behaviour had not raised their suspicions.
