## Key points

- Republicans fear Graham’s Senate race is unexpectedly close.
- Trump has held multiple events to support her campaign.
- Her experience and appeal remain under scrutiny.

## Summary

Republicans are reportedly concerned that Darline Graham could lose South Carolina’s Senate race to Democrat Annie Andrews, despite the state’s strong Republican record. Donald Trump selected Graham to fill her late brother Lindsey’s seat and urged her to seek a full term, but some party figures blame him for backing a candidate they consider inexperienced and poorly prepared.

A new poll found Graham and Andrews tied, prompting Trump to hold another event for Graham in a state he won by 18 points in 2024. Graham has faced criticism over her campaign experience, fundraising and early remarks, though sources say she has become more engaged in campaigning and debate preparation. Her primary rival Ralph Norman said his Republican family would not vote for her, while Andrews has focused her campaign on her work as a paediatrician and mother.
