## Key points

- Neighbours object to Rupert Lowe’s barn conversion plans.
- Concerns include the valley’s character and wildlife pressures.
- A previous five-barn proposal was rejected on appeal.

## Summary

Reform UK-turned-Restore Britain MP Rupert Lowe is facing objections from neighbours over plans to convert a barn on his Gloucestershire estate into a home, annexe and garage. The dispute centres on whether the development would harm the valley’s rural character and add pressure to nearby protected wildlife habitat.

Rose Vestey, a local resident, told the council the scheme would not fit the unspoilt setting, while another objector sought to prevent further development. A council biodiversity officer also warned of possible effects on the protected Cotswold Beechwoods. In 2023, the council rejected Lowe’s separate proposal to convert five barns; a planning inspector later dismissed his appeal, criticising the design as insensitive. Lowe says the current plans restore old, dilapidated barns and do not involve farmland.
