Richard L. O’Connor, an Emmy-winning producer and production executive whose credits included “The Muppet Movie” and “On Golden Pond”, has died aged 96. His career spanned several decades across film and television, making him a significant behind-the-scenes figure in major American productions.

O’Connor died on 22 July in Palm Desert, California, his family confirmed. He won an Emmy in 1990 for “A Mother’s Courage: The Mary Thomas Story” and received nominations for “The Final Days” and “Fatal Vision”; his other work included “Across 110th Street”, “Raise the Titanic” and “All Quiet on the Western Front”. Born in San Francisco in 1930, he served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War before beginning in CBS Television City’s mailroom, and is survived by three daughters, three stepchildren and four grandchildren.
