Double Olympic champion Matt Richards is aiming to add a Commonwealth Games gold to his collection when the swimming competition begins in Glasgow, having missed out with four fourth-place finishes for Wales at Birmingham 2022. The 23-year-old, who has won Olympic titles in 2021 and 2024 along with world and European crowns, says winning gold for Wales and hearing the Welsh anthem on the podium would mean a great deal, calling it a personal goal he has yet to achieve despite his broader success.

Richards leads a 21-strong Wales swimming and Para-swimming squad competing at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre from Friday 24 July to Wednesday 29 July. The team includes Olympic champion Kieran Bird and Medi Harris, a bronze medallist from 2022, alongside rising talents such as Para-swimmer Ela Letton-Jones, who won world silver in 2025, 17-year-old Theodora Taylor, and Commonwealth debutant Tyler Melbourne-Smith.
