Director Ridley Scott and actor Hugh Jackman have reached an agreement with Sony Pictures to develop and finance a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure novel. Scott will helm the project from a screenplay by Jack Thorne, with Jackman cast in a leading role and Scott also serving as producer alongside Michael Pruss through Scott Free Productions.

The film represents another reimagining of the 1883 source material, which centres on a young man discovering a treasure map that leads him across the seas, where he encounters various nautical dangers and the notorious pirate Long John Silver. Previous cinematic versions have included Disney's 1950 production and the comedic 1996 Muppet adaptation, though this new iteration marks a high-profile collaboration between a celebrated auteur and a major film star.
