Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi film Prometheus has been added to Peacock's streaming library, coinciding with the release of his new movie The Dog Stars, which has underperformed at the box office and received mixed reviews. The move gives audiences a chance to revisit Scott's Alien prequel as he confirms plans to return to the franchise, having dismissed Fede Álvarez's Alien: Romulus as merely "okay" despite its commercial and critical success, and stating his intention to make a direct sequel to Alien: Covenant instead.

Prometheus starred Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron, and grossed over $400 million worldwide against a $130 million budget, earning a "Certified Fresh" 76% on Rotten Tomatoes despite a mixed critical legacy; the late Roger Ebert notably gave it a perfect four-star review. Alien: Romulus, by contrast, took $350 million and scored 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. Scott's Covenant sequel would sideline both Romulus and a previous Alien project by Neill Blomkamp, which Scott reportedly helped derail. The Dog Stars is currently showing in more than 3,300 US cinemas.
