Alien and Aliens, two of Ridley Scott's most influential sci-fi horror films, have both landed on Netflix at the start of September 2026, marking their return after an absence from streaming. The move comes as Scott's latest release, The Dog Stars, struggles at the box office with just $20 million taken so far, positioning it as one of his lowest-grossing films to date.

Scott directed the original 1979 Alien, while James Cameron helmed its 1986 sequel Aliens, and both remain hugely influential on the genre. Neither film currently carries a "last day to watch" tag on Netflix, suggesting they should remain available until at least the end of October. Looking ahead, the franchise has further instalments in the pipeline: a second season of Alien: Earth is now in production for release before the end of 2027, a sequel to 2024's Alien: Romulus has been confirmed without a director or date attached, and Scott himself has said he plans to return to the franchise with a new film centred on Michael Fassbender's android character, David, though this remains in early development.
