British right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos appears to have been detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Louisiana, according to the agency’s inmate registry. The reported detention is notable because Yiannopoulos is a British national living in the US and has publicly supported Donald Trump’s tougher immigration policies; however, the reason for his detention remains unknown.

Yiannopoulos, 41, formerly edited Breitbart and later worked for Kanye West. He became prominent as an early Trump supporter in 2016 and has attracted widespread criticism for inflammatory remarks about several minority groups; neither ICE nor Yiannopoulos responded to the BBC’s requests for comment.
