The late director and actor Rob Reiner has received a posthumous Emmy nomination for his guest role in Season 4 of FX's "The Bear", in which he played restaurant and business consultant Albert Schnurr, a character who mentors Ebraheim (Edwin Lee Gibson) on franchising. He will compete in the guest actor in a comedy series category. The nomination is notable as it is Reiner's first Emmy nod for acting since 1978, marking a return to recognition for the star decades after his early career.

Reiner first found acting acclaim as Michael "Meathead" Stivic in the CBS sitcom "All in the Family", earning five nominations between 1972 and 1978 and winning twice. More recently, he was nominated in 2024 for directing and producing the Albert Brooks documentary "Defending My Life". Reiner, the celebrated director behind "When Harry Met Sally", "The Princess Bride" and "This Is Spinal Tap", died on 14 December alongside his wife, Michele; the couple were found stabbed to death at their Los Angeles home, and their son, Nick Reiner, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. His final on-screen role was a cameo as George Washington in Larry David's HBO sketch series "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness", filmed a month before his death.

Reiner won two Emmys and five nominations in the 1970s for playing Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the sitcom "All in the Family", before going on to a long career as a film director, best known for "When Harry Met Sally", "The Princess Bride" and "This Is Spinal Tap". Decades later, he took a guest role in the FX comedy-drama "The Bear" as Albert Schnurr, a business consultant who advises a member of the show's kitchen staff on expanding into franchising.

Reiner died on 14 December, alongside his wife, Michele, after the couple were found stabbed at their Los Angeles home; his son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths. His guest turn on "The Bear" was among his final on-screen appearances before his death.

The Emmy nomination places Reiner in contention for the guest actor in a comedy series award, marking his first acting nomination since 1978 and the first time he has been recognised in this way since his early "All in the Family" days.
