Roblox shares AI child-safety tools parents should know
Roblox has outlined the safety measures it is using to try to detect online grooming and protect children on its platform, as its CEO discusses new tools with parents amid ongoing concerns about predators. The platform's enormous reach among young users makes this a significant issue, since seemingly innocuous conversations about shared games can be an early stage in grooming attempts that later push children towards private chats or other apps.
Roblox reported an average of 123 million daily active users in the second quarter of 2026, with nearly three-quarters of its age-checked users under 18. Co-founder and CEO Dave Baszucki has announced new features including Kids and Select accounts, alongside age verification, content filtering and stricter communication controls, saying the company has "no tolerance" for bad actors and aims to build safety in by default while letting parents customise chat settings. The announcement follows scrutiny of the platform's safety record, including a case reported earlier this year involving a Nebraska man accused of targeting two girls aged 12 and 14.
