Roblox to enable instant browser gaming and offline play

Engadget · 2 hours ago

Roblox has announced plans to make its games more accessible by launching browser-based play by the end of 2026 and offline play by mid-2027, as revealed at its annual Roblox Developers Conference. The changes are designed to remove barriers to entry, letting players jump into games instantly from links shared on search engines, YouTube, X or email, and allowing continued play in areas with poor internet connectivity, marking a shift away from the platform's traditional download-first model.

The browser-based mode will let users join games directly from an Experience Details Page without installing anything, though it will initially be limited to Chrome, with other browsers to follow later. Offline solo play, meanwhile, will give creators the option to let users continue playing without a connection, with early access due before the mid-2027 full launch. Roblox is also pursuing a "Play Roblox Everywhere" strategy to let creators release games as standalone apps on mobile, PC and consoles, alongside engine upgrades to better support 2D, puzzle and turn-based multiplayer games beyond its usual 3D format.
