A newly graduated Queensland Police constable allegedly stabbed twice in the neck during a domestic disturbance chased the suspect and deployed his Taser despite severe blood loss. Police union officials hailed his actions as courageous, while authorities said the incident highlighted the risks officers face when responding to volatile situations.

The incident occurred near dawn in Hemmant, Brisbane’s east, when officers attended a dispute involving a father and son. The injured constable, aged in his 40s, and his senior-constable partner were both assaulted; the partner was reportedly slashed across the forehead. The suspect, a 35-year-old man, was arrested around 7am and charged with two counts of attempted murder, while the constable was taken to hospital in a stable condition and expected to undergo surgery.
