- Cast includes Anna Kendrick, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Topher Grace

## Summary

Chris Rock has returned to directing for the first time in 12 years with "Misty Green," a drama built around a career-best performance from British actress Rosalind Eleazar. Rock has said he conceived the idea after encountering former sitcom actresses doing voiceover work to make ends meet, and shaped it into the story of a Black actress on the skids, a perspective he notes has rarely been explored on screen compared with the many similar "faded Hollywood star" films built around white leads, from "Sunset Boulevard" to "Inside Daisy Clover."

Eleazar, familiar to British audiences from "Slow Horses," plays Misty, a former Supporting Actress Emmy winner whose addiction, family problems and refusal to lower herself to auditioning have derailed her career. She is supported by Anna Kendrick as her encouraging best friend, Topher Grace as her exasperated agent, Adam Driver as a dubious filmmaker friend, and Daniel Kaluuya as her troubled brother, while Rock himself plays a director from Misty's past who may hold the key to her comeback; critical response has singled out Eleazar's and Kaluuya's performances as the film's strongest elements, though reviewers found Rock's own turn and script uneven in places.
