Russell on pole position for Dutch GP sprint race
George Russell claimed pole position for the sprint race at the Dutch Grand Prix, his first sprint pole in four races, giving him a chance to close the championship gap on Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli. Russell, who trails Antonelli by 59 points, edged out McLaren's Lando Norris by just 0.041 seconds, while Antonelli could only manage fifth on the grid.
Antonelli finished behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and McLaren's Oscar Piastri, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen sixth and championship runner-up Lewis Hamilton seventh. Elsewhere, Aston Martin's new Honda engine showed promise in practice but its impact was unclear in qualifying after a technical fault affected Fernando Alonso, who finished last, while team-mate Lance Stroll was 19th.
