Russell returns for Scotland in South Africa

BBC Sport · 1 month ago

Fly-half Finn Russell has recovered from a calf injury and will start for Scotland in their Nations Championship match against South Africa on Saturday in Pretoria. The 33-year-old will earn his 95th cap, replacing Tom Jordan, with two additional changes promoting tighthead prop Zander Fagerson and lock Gregor Brown to the starting XV. Several squad members have been added to the bench, whilst others including winger Darcy Graham have been excluded from the matchday selection.

Scotland faces a formidable challenge against the world champions, who defeated England 45-21 in their opening fixture. The visitors have never won in South Africa and coach Gregor Townsend described the fixture as the "ultimate challenge". South Africa has made ten changes to their squad, resting several key players including captain Siya Kolisi and fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, with Scotland returning to South African soil for the first time since 2014.
