## Key points

- Russia agreed to trilateral talks with Ukraine and the US in the UAE.
- Moscow suggested they could take place around 10 November.
- Putin said discussions should focus on security for a final peace deal.

## Summary

Russia has agreed to resume trilateral peace talks with Ukraine and the United States in the United Arab Emirates next month, after discussions between US envoy Steve Witkoff and leaders in Kyiv, Moscow and Europe. The talks, stalled since the start of the year, could reopen a diplomatic channel as Donald Trump’s administration presses for a negotiated settlement.

Russia suggested a date around 10 November, while Volodymyr Zelensky wants talks to begin as soon as possible. Vladimir Putin said discussions should address security arrangements for a final peace deal, rather than a short-term truce. Witkoff also presented Putin with proposed peace ideas and praised him during a meeting that drew criticism, while Russia’s position includes seeking control of the rest of eastern Ukraine.
