Russia carried out its largest attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since the end of the last heating season, with Kyiv and the surrounding region among the main targets, Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi said. The overnight strikes killed at least six people and injured 33 across the country, while disrupting electricity supplies as Ukraine prepares for another winter of attacks on its energy grid.

Eleven regions were attacked, with residential buildings, public services, businesses and railways also hit, according to Ukrainian officials. DTEK said it had restored power to 8,000 homes; some households in several regions were still without electricity on Wednesday, and the grid operator urged people to avoid using high-powered appliances from 10:00 to 16:00. Russia said the Trypilska power station, a major electricity supplier to Kyiv, was among its targets, but Ukraine had not confirmed this.
