French President Emmanuel Macron says Russian hybrid attacks targeting Europe and France have intensified, aiming to intimidate countries and weaken their support for Ukraine. He has ordered plans to protect critical infrastructure and sensitive defence and technology sites, warning that recent attacks would not go unanswered.

Macron cited alleged Russian involvement in a drone attack near Leipzig airport, warnings from Poland about possible strikes on Nato’s eastern flank, and a drone strike near the Ukraine–Poland border. European countries have also reported suspicious fires at defence facilities, while Russia denies plans to attack Europe but has threatened retaliation against Western military support for Ukraine and warned that facilities in Ukraine could become legitimate targets.
