Marvel Studios is scaling back its film and television output in a deliberate move to focus on quality after several years of critical and commercial disappointment. At its Comic-Con presentation, the studio confirmed only four new MCU releases across 2026 and 2027, including the Disney+ series "VisionQuest" in October, before adding two tentpoles to the 2028 slate: "Black Panther 3" and a "Ghost Rider" film starring Ryan Gosling, whom studio boss Kevin Feige credited with pitching the project himself to director Shawn Levy.

Feige told Empire magazine the slowdown reflects a long-planned strategy, noting that "when quantity is so much, you get spread thin," and pointed to "Avengers: Secret Wars" as the sole Marvel release in 2027, alongside "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "Avengers: Doomsday" as the only theatrical films before 2028. This marks a sharp contrast to 2023, when Marvel delivered six film and TV projects in a single year; Feige has previously acknowledged that over-expansion into Disney+ content diluted quality, a view echoed by former Disney chief Bob Iger. An X-Men reboot remains in development, though no release date was announced.
