Ryan Reynolds made a surprise undercover appearance as Deadpool at San Diego Comic-Con, walking the convention floor in costume during Marvel's Hall H presentation before sharing a behind-the-scenes video thanking fans for their "unapologetic devotion" to the character. The appearance comes as Marvel prepares a fourth Deadpool film, with Reynolds having recently confirmed the project is in development, underlining the enduring popularity of the franchise a decade after the original film's release.

The video, posted to X, marked ten years since the first Deadpool film and exactly two years since Deadpool & Wolverine, and included a clip of Robert Downey Jr. calling Reynolds up on stage during the Avengers: Doomsday cast's presentation. Reynolds first played the character in 2016's Deadpool, having tested a version of it in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, and went on to reprise the role in Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, the latter grossing $1.3 billion worldwide and pushing the franchise past $2 billion in total earnings.
