His death follows a prolonged illness involving severe meningitis, life support and further complications, prompting tributes to his screen presence and contributions to 1990s American film and television.

Monroe’s mother announced his death and asked for prayers for the family, particularly his three children. A fundraising page said he had spent nine months across several hospitals and rehabilitation centres, facing pneumonia caused by a lung infection and substantial medical costs; he began acting in Out All Night before building a career through supporting roles in film and series including NYPD Blue and Southland.
