- Organisers alleged fans attacked them and said they filed police reports.
- The incident has fuelled questions about security’s handling of the confrontation.

## Summary

About 20 activists wearing XX-XY Athletics shirts and displaying a “Save Women’s Sports” banner were escorted from a Portland Thorns match after a confrontation with other spectators. The incident began when the group revealed its message at half-time; organisers say fans verbally abused and physically attacked them, while the removal has prompted disagreement over how the club and security handled the dispute.

The match against North Carolina Courage took place at Providence Park on Friday and was designated Fan Appreciation night. Organiser Amy Sousa said attendees filed police reports and alleged they were struck with flags, had drinks thrown at them and saw one woman punched; Brandi Kruse said another attendee was pushed over a seat. A reporter covering the incident also said he was harassed and had his phone knocked from his hand. The article gives no account from the club or the other spectators involved.
