Mel Gibson's 2016 World War II drama *Hacksaw Ridge* is set to leave Netflix in the US on 31 July 2026, though it will remain available on Paramount Plus. The film, which follows conscientious objector Desmond Doss during the Battle of Okinawa, is widely regarded as one of the highlights of Gibson's directing career and marked a major comeback for him in Hollywood. Its departure comes as Gibson himself has largely stepped back from directing in recent years, focusing instead on two upcoming sequels to *The Passion of the Christ*.

Released in 2016 with Andrew Garfield in the lead role, *Hacksaw Ridge* grossed over $180 million against a $40 million budget and earned six Oscar nominations, winning two for Film Editing and Sound Mixing, with further nods for Best Picture, Best Director and Garfield's performance. Gibson's next directing credit came in 2025 with the aviation thriller *Flight Risk*, starring Mark Wahlberg, and he is now working on *The Resurrection of the Christ Part 1* and *Part 2*, due in cinemas in 2027 and 2028 respectively, with Lionsgate recently unveiling first-look material for the films.
