Say Hello to Gerard Butler’s 2018 War Gem on Free Streaming

Collider · 3 hours ago

Gerard Butler's 2018 submarine thriller Hunter Killer is set to become available for free streaming on Plex from 1 September 2026. The news comes as Butler continues to enjoy strong career momentum following the box-office success of Universal's live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake, which grossed $650 million worldwide in 2025 and has already spawned a confirmed sequel due in June 2027, with Butler reprising his role as Stoick the Vast.

In Hunter Killer, Butler plays Joe Glass, the unconventional commander of the USS Arkansas, who is tasked with rescuing a Russian general held captive by a rogue agent. The film, based on the novel Firing Point by George Wallace and Don Keith, was directed by Donovan Marsh and co-starred Gary Oldman; it was one of three films Butler released in 2018, alongside Den of Thieves and The Vanishing.
