Scottie Scheffler matched the TPC Southwind course record with a nine-under-par 61 to take a three-shot lead after the second round of the St Jude Championship in Memphis. The world number one strengthened his position at the opening FedEx Cup play-off event, where strong results determine qualification for the next stages.

Scheffler made five birdies in his first five holes and finished with 11 birdies and two bogeys, moving to 11 under par. Im Sung-jae and Viktor Hovland share second on eight under, while Ludvig Åberg is seventh under; Tommy Fleetwood is the leading British player at six under. Rory McIlroy is four over but remains in the event because there is no halfway cut, while Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre withdrew with a knee injury after opening with an 82.
