Schoolboy, 16, who stabbed female teacher in the head after asking her to check his homework is locked up for four years

A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to four and a half years in detention after stabbing his history teacher in the head at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire. The attack on Vicki Williams took place in February when the pupil, then 15, asked her to check his homework before thrusting an eight-inch kitchen knife at her and pushing her into a chair. He was cleared of attempted murder by a jury but found guilty of the lesser charge of wounding with intent.

Mrs Williams, who watched the sentencing via an online link, told the court in a victim impact statement that she now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after believing she was going to die, describing "pure hatred" in her attacker's eyes. Sentencing him at Swansea Crown Court, Judge Paul Thomas KC said it was "pure luck" she had not suffered far worse, possibly fatal, injuries, and told the boy he had planned the attack knowing she would be no physical match for him, though his motive remains unknown. The school was placed into lockdown following the incident, and the teenager cannot be named for legal reasons.
