- Emma Laird co-stars as scientist Sloane Sutherland.
- The adaptation starts filming in New York and Vancouver.

## Summary

Scottish actor Thomas Doherty will lead the film adaptation of *Butcher and Blackbird*, playing Rowan Kane, a chef who becomes a vigilante serial killer. Fellow Scottish actress Emma Laird will play Sloane Sutherland, an American scientist and fellow killer; the story follows their flirtatious relationship and annual competition targeting other serial killers.

The film is based on Brynne Weaver’s novel, the first in the *Ruinous Love* trilogy, which topped the *New York Times* bestseller list. Production is due to begin in New York and Vancouver this month. Readers have speculated that Doherty may use his Scottish accent for Rowan, although the character is Irish in the novel.
