‘Scrubs’ Showrunner Dissects Season 2 Premiere: Is Dr. Cox Going to Live, and Will We Finally See J.D. and Elliott’s Kid?
The "Scrubs" revival's second season premiered on ABC, continuing the show's exploration of J.D. and Elliot's new dynamic after their divorce. The episodes focus on how the pair adapt to working together whilst dating other people, with J.D. pursuing a relationship with a new character named Charlie. Meanwhile, the show addresses concerns about Dr. Cox's autoimmune disease, with showrunner Assem Batra reassuring viewers that the character will survive and that the series remains a comedy rather than venturing into tragedy.
The premiere also introduced new interns and brought back original cast members including Carla, Jordan and The Todd, with more appearances from the Janitor and Elliot's ex Sean coming later in the season. Due to John C. McGinley's filming commitments with his other project "Rooster," he will appear in approximately four episodes this season. Batra described J.D.'s new relationship as a "first pancake relationship," suggesting it's somewhat awkward as J.D. navigates dating again post-divorce. The showrunner also left open the possibility of seeing J.D. and Elliot's child Ollie at some point, noting it remains "open and in the air."
