## Key points

- “I Remember You” was the top US prom song in 1990, Bach recalled.
- Alicia Keys, Outkast and Zoë Kravitz have links to the song.
- Bach still sings it in its original key at live shows.

## Summary

Sebastian Bach said Skid Row’s “I Remember You” has reached listeners well beyond the heavy metal audience, becoming a source of nostalgia for people who encountered it at different points in their lives. He recalled its popularity as a 1990 prom song and examples of musicians who have described a personal connection to it.

Bach said he still performs the song in its original key and focuses on meeting the demands of the performance rather than looking back. He cited Alicia Keys recalling it from her parents’ car, Outkast displaying a Skid Row CD on MTV, and Zoë Kravitz releasing the song as her first single. Bach said he performs it every night, while remaining concerned about hitting its climactic high note.
