## Key points

- Sony has released PS4 firmware 14.02.
- The update lists only “security fixes”.
- Reports linked earlier firmware to exploits and cheating.

## Summary

Sony has released an unannounced firmware update for the PS4, bringing it to version 14.02, as it responds to reports of new hacking and piracy exploits. The change matters because exploits can enable unauthorised software and cheating, and the article places the update amid wider efforts to secure PlayStation consoles ahead of GTA 6.

The article says hackers had been exploiting PS4 firmware 14.0, including to cheat in GTA Online; Sony’s only stated change is “security fixes”. It also reports that emulators have been run on some PS5 consoles using older firmware versions, though it gives no technical details about the PS4 fix or evidence that it prevents those exploits.
