- The attacker is in critical condition; an investigation is under way.
- Authorities say he had prior terrorism-related convictions.

## Summary

A Jordanian security officer was killed and another wounded in a stabbing outside the Sri Lankan embassy in Amman on Thursday. Jordanian authorities called it a terrorist act and said an initial investigation indicated the attacker had planned to target security officers.

The attack took place at about 12:20pm local time on a busy road in west Amman. The assailant reportedly tried to seize the dead officer’s weapon, but a second officer intervened and detained him; that officer is in stable condition, while the attacker is in critical condition. Jordan’s State Security Court has opened an investigation, and officials say the attacker had previous terrorism-related convictions. Any link to a separate deadly attack at a church in southern Jordan weeks earlier remains unclear.
