Willmington, who lives with a rare nerve condition, said he was initially brushed off by an employee before other staff paged the driver over the store's PA system, and the vehicle was moved. The incident has reignited debate about awareness of accessible parking rules and non-visible disabilities.

Willmington told Yahoo News that after alerting a store greeter he was met with indifference, but was later confronted by a different staff member for parking near the entrance himself while the offending vehicle remained. Bunnings said the vehicle was moved within ten minutes of the site manager being alerted and it takes accessibility "seriously". Willmington, who has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease affecting his mobility and requiring leg braces, said the backlash he received online—including people questioning whether he was "really" disabled because he can walk—showed widespread misunderstanding that disabilities are not always visible.
