Labour MP Samantha Niblett has embraced being called "the sex MP" after her calls for a "summer of sex" and for MPs to bring sex toys to Parliament sparked controversy, insisting the attention is helping her campaign for better sex education gain traction. Niblett, who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Sex and Reproductive Health, argues that lifelong education on sex and relationships is needed to combat abuse and stigma, and says openness about "good sex" is essential if society is to properly address "bad sex" and sexual crime.

Her campaign has won support from Dame Emma Thompson and specialists, and has been championed alongside fellow Labour MP Alistair Strathern, who has introduced a bill to make relationships and sex education mandatory for 16 to 18-year-olds. Niblett cited Crime Survey figures showing 15.9% of people aged 16 or over (7.7 million people) reported experiencing sexual assault since the age of 16, including 1.9 million rape victims, as evidence of the need for change. Her stance has drawn political attacks, including from Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who accused Labour of "fiddling while Rome burns", but Niblett insists the issue transcends party politics and requires government-led reform.
