## Key points

- Nathan Owens was convicted of murdering his stepdaughter, Carla Georgescu.
- CCTV and car data undermined his account of travelling to Preston.
- The jury reached its verdict in under four hours.

## Summary

Nathan Owens, 34, has been convicted of murdering his 19-year-old stepdaughter, Carla Georgescu, at her university accommodation in Preston. Prosecutors said he travelled there after becoming jealous of her planned trip to Romania to meet a man she had met online, and described his sexual fixation on her as a key part of the case.

Carla was found dead on 5 February, initially believed to have died by suicide. CCTV and car data contradicted Owens’s account of the journey, while investigators said he searched online about suspicious-death inquiries and wiped devices after returning home. Jurors reached their verdict in under four hours; Owens did not give evidence, and the precise events inside the flat remain unclear.
