Sheffield becomes cycle track as grand prix arrives in city centre

Sheffield city centre was turned into a temporary race circuit for the Sheffield Grand Prix, with leading cyclists competing on closed streets. The event brought a high-profile sporting spectacle into the heart of the city, but also affected motorists and public transport.

Road closures began at 4am and, on parts of the route, were due to remain in place until 11pm. Areas including Pinstone Street, Charles Street, Union Street, Norfolk Street and Surrey Street were affected, while several bus services were diverted; Supertram services were not disrupted.
