Sheffield Hallam University
Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) has opened three new buildings on its City Campus for 2025, upgrading teaching, learning and research facilities across several institutes, and is preparing to open a new campus in Brent Cross, London, in 2027. The expansion comes despite the university recording ten-year lows in applications and admissions as of September 2025, and SHU will be hoping the new facilities help reverse that decline, particularly as students rated it among the UK's top five universities in this year's Whatuni Student Choice Awards, including first place for cost-of-living support.
The new City Campus buildings house Sheffield Business School, the Institute of Law and Justice, the Institute of Social Sciences and architecture students, arranged around a new green space called Hallam Green with seating for 150 people, food venues and rooftop gardens. The London campus will offer more than 660 accommodation places alongside subjects including accounting, business, computing, law and psychology. SHU also runs one of the largest degree apprenticeship programmes in the country, with 3,300 apprentices, and offers financial support through Student Success Scholarships worth £600 to £2,100, plus placement bursaries, hardship funds (£310,000 awarded in 2024-25) and a contextual admissions scheme giving local applicants up to two A-level grades' leeway.
