Sheffield homeless man’s camp removed from shopping area after complaints of anti-social behaviour

The Star (Sheffield) · 3 hours ago

A rough sleeper's encampment in Sheffield's Burngreave area was removed today following repeated complaints from local business owners. The camp on Ellesmere Green had required two previous clearances after shopkeepers reported that the presence was attracting additional anti-social behaviour and that smoke from fires was discouraging customers from visiting their shops.

Burngreave ward councillor Mustafa Ahmed said he had offered support to the individual since May, though claims the man rejected all assistance outright. The councillor also alleged that the individual had verbally threatened him and his young autistic son on separate occasions. South Yorkshire Police attended the clearance operation, though no arrests or charges were made.
