Shelly has unveiled a $49.99 home security camera that works fully without a subscription, positioning it as a budget option in a crowded smart home camera market. The device continues the company's push into affordable connected home hardware, following last month's launch of a low-cost flood sensor, and appeals to buyers who want basic monitoring and automation without ongoing fees.

The Shelly Camera offers 1080p resolution with a 110-degree horizontal and 70-degree vertical field of view, plus night vision, though it falls short of rivals like Wyze, which sells a 2K camera for around $40. It requires a wired USB-C power connection rather than running on battery. Without a subscription, users can live-stream footage over Wi-Fi, save recordings locally to a microSD card, and trigger automations with other Shelly devices, such as activating a floodlight on detecting motion. A paid subscription adds cloud recording and smart object detection able to distinguish people, pets and vehicles for more tailored alerts. It will be sold in black or white through Shelly's online store and other retailers.
