## Key points

- Holland denies Jean Grey appears in the new Spider-Man film.
- Sadie Sink’s secret role remains unconfirmed.
- The answer arrives when the film opens on 31 July.

## Summary

Tom Holland has said that Jean Grey is “not in” Spider-Man: Brand New Day, casting doubt on widespread speculation that Sadie Sink is playing the X-Men character. The remark matters because Sink’s undisclosed role has become a major focus of the film’s publicity, and a Jean Grey appearance could signal Marvel’s gradual introduction of a new X-Men generation.

Holland may simply be denying the rumour, though fans have noted that actors have previously misdirected audiences about Marvel appearances. Sink is reportedly expected to return for Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, while Marvel is developing an X-Men reboot; director Destin Daniel Cretton says the secrecy around her role has a genuine reason. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is due to open in cinemas on 31 July.
