Sia Sells 50 Percent Stake in Catalog for $180 Million in Preparation for Big Avatar Plans
Sia has sold a 50 per cent stake in her music catalogue to Swedish investment firm Pophouse for $180 million. The deal also sets the stage for an immersive digital avatar production based on her music, extending Pophouse’s use of virtual performances to another major artist.
The planned show would draw on songs Sia performed and wrote, including her vocals on Rihanna’s “Diamonds”; it is at least a couple of years away and could visit selected cities. The sale covers publishing and master recording rights, but not Sia’s name or likeness. An insider estimates her songs generate $18 million a year in writing and performance royalties, while several tracks have passed two billion Spotify streams.
