## Key points

- Trump alleged Chinese operatives breached US voter records in a primetime speech
- ABC, NBC, CNN skipped live broadcast; Sinclair affiliates aired it anyway
- Trump publicly criticised ABC and NBC for declining to air the address

## Summary

President Trump's primetime address on election security drew attention largely for its uneven broadcast, with ABC, NBC and CNN's news divisions declining to air it live on their main channels while Sinclair-owned local affiliates preempted programming to carry the White House's own feed. During the speech, Trump criticised the networks that refused to broadcast it, naming ABC and NBC directly, and used the platform to allege that Chinese operatives had infiltrated American voter records.

Full details of the alleged breach, including its scale, timing or the evidence behind the claim, were not substantiated in available coverage, and no independent confirmation or official follow-up has since emerged. The episode has instead settled as a story about fractured media coverage of a presidential address as much as about the underlying security claim, underscoring ongoing tension between the White House and major broadcasters over how such speeches are carried.
