The world number one, who has not yet found his best form at the Championships, won 7-5 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 and showed no ill effects from the 30C heat that contributed to his shock second-round exit at this year's French Open.

Struff, ranked 74th, made a strong start and pushed Sinner in his early service games, even holding a set point in the second set, but the Italian remained composed at the key moments to claim the decisive breaks. Sinner has now not dropped a set in his past four matches, though his toughest opponents may lie ahead: he could face 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals if Djokovic beats Felix Auger-Aliassime.
