## Key points

- Investigators have not established the cause.

## Summary

A fire that swept through a home in Brooklyn killed six people and injured seven others, including three firefighters. The blaze spread to a neighbouring house, prompting a response from more than 200 first responders, and its cause is under investigation.

The fire began at about 1.40am on Thursday in Sunset Park and took around three hours to bring under control. Four people died at the scene and two later died in hospital; a lithium-ion battery or possibly two were found there, but officials have not said whether they were linked to the fire. New York’s mayor said the city had recorded more than 400 e-bike fires this year.
