Ski Sunday presenter and former Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott has suffered a collapsed lung after landing badly while attempting a front flip from a five-metre platform into Lake Annecy in France. She was treated in hospital with a chest drain, and her experience highlights the risk of serious internal injury from jumping into water from height, even in apparently safe conditions.

Alcott, 44, said she initially tried to continue after the impact but sought medical help when she struggled to breathe. Doctors described the injury as blunt trauma caused by her chest hitting the water at an estimated 20mph; the Royal Life Saving Society advises swimmers to enter water carefully and never jump from heights. A collapsed lung, or pneumothorax, occurs when air becomes trapped between the lung and chest wall.
